Here at Tutorage we are putting together a new and exciting course of training sessions aimed at you, the parents! We understand that helping your child to get to grips with maths can be tricky, and can often leave you feeling a little out of your depth. Our Musical Mathsters course will help to guide you through navigating the world of maths using music and play to help your child to engage with their learning.
How does music help maths?
When we break it down, there are a lot of links between the core elements of music and maths. Using music and movement can help to break down some of the concepts of maths that can often be a little more tricky to grasp. There is research that shows us how musical training can lead to an increase in core executive function and cognitive flexibility. https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2022.968144 This increase in our core executive function can help to make maths concepts more accessible and a bit less daunting! Using music and movement can also encourage children to engage more with the teacher (in this case, you!) and create an environment where the learning is fun. If you fancy having a deeper look into some research on the links and benefits, take a look at this research article!

So, how does it work?
Our bespoke course utilises free play and musical activities to make maths learning more enjoyable. During the sessions, we will guide you through these different activities and approaches to help you see what works for your child. We will teach you a toolkit of games and activities that introduce children to mathematical concepts in a way that suits them. This will be done through demonstration and observation so that you can see how it all works then put it into practice. There will be a discussion time at the end of each session with our highly qualified tutors and the other parents. The aim of this discussion will be to identify what worked for your child and why it worked, allowing you to create a personalised approach to your child’s learning and development.
What are the details?
